Michael Harrington

Michael pursued law as a second career, joining RLR’s Courtenay office as an articling student in August 2023. At RLR Michael has acted in Provincial and BC Supreme court chambers for both plaintiffs and defendants, practiced in the areas of employment law, contracts, human rights, debtor and creditor remedies, family law, and civil contempt of court. He has also assisted with estate drafting, corporate acquisitions, section 85 rollovers, and conveyances.

Michael’s background as a business owner and Business Analyst informs his legal practice; he prides himself on his ability to connect with his clients and explain the law in an accessible, unassuming manner. Legal matters can be overwhelming; Michael is committed to understanding & empowering his clients.

As a Law student at Thomson Rivers University, Michael won the Dean’s Course Prize in Advanced Criminal Law with Judge Koturbash for his paper on the intersection of criminal, constitutional, immigration and administrative law in the case of Jaskirat Sidhu, the truck driver in the Humboldt Broncos tragedy. He also enjoyed volunteering with Pro Bono Students Canada, as a TRU peer mentor, tutoring at the TRU Writing Centre, and as one of TRU’s first law tutors. One of the highlights of his time in Kamloops was volunteering as a writing tutor at Cplul’kw’ten (the Indigenous Gathering House) with Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc students and he was honoured to receive the campus-wide Neil Russell Student Leadership Award.

Michael and his family chose the Comox Valley for its stunning beauty and balanced lifestyle. Outside of work you’ll find him swinging a fly on the rivers, trying to keep up with his son going up mountain bike trails and down Mt. Washington ski runs, or walking his dogs with his partner.
