RLR Sponsors the Hesquiaht Women’s Team at the Charleson Memorial Tournament

This April, RLR was proud to sponsor the team jerseys of the Hesquiaht women’s basketball team at the Con “Nupps” Charleson Memorial Invitational Tournament in Port Alberni. The team went on to win their division.

About the Tournament

The Con “Nupps” Charleson Memorial Invitational Tournament was held April 16 to 19, 2026, hosted by the Charleson family. Roughly 500 First Nations athletes from 40 BC teams competed in the event .

The tournament honours Constant Napolean “Nupps” Charleson, a Hesquiaht Braves basketball player, coach, and manager who championed all-native sports throughout his career. His family carried that work forward to make this year’s event happen.

The Jerseys

The team jerseys RLR sponsored carried the Charleson family design — the kakawin cheelth, the orca transforming into a wolf — along with the number 24, the jersey Nupps wore through most of his playing career.

RLR runs an active community sponsorship program across Vancouver Island, supporting Vancouver Island athletes, organizations, and community-led events. The firm has served Vancouver Island clients since 1977, with offices in Nanaimo, Port Alberni, and Courtenay.
